We will have our first-ever writing contest during 2009. The subject of the contest is "Alley Cats and Alley Rats". The contest will be judged by the entire membership of folioalley. Winner to be announced on December 15, 2009. You will find the rules for this contest listed below. |

Rules and Restrictions:
These contests are open to members of folioalley in good standing and must be US residents. Members can win only one prize. You must be 18 years of age to qualify for prizes. Void where prohibited. Employees, families and sponsors (we wish) of folioalley are ineligible. Prizes are not redeemable for cash (except those that are cash, ha). Cash will be paid in the form of a money order made payable to the name of the winner. Decisions are final. We reserve the right to deem any entry ineligible on the basis of adherence to site restrictions (and especially on the basis of whether the content is obscene). We reserve the right to publicize (both on and off the folioalley site) information about the winner and the winner's profile and portfolios without additional compensation. We are not liable for any loss, damage or injury associated with accepting or using the prizes (like tripping on the way into the store to spend that awesome gift card!). If the advertised prize is unavailable, we reserve the right to offer a substitution of equal value. We also reserve the right to terminate the contests at any time without notice.
How to enter the contests:
To enter, create a folioalley account and then get to work! All members are automatically entered in the Folio of the Year, Most Uploads and Most Active contests. To enter the Portfolio Theme Suggestion contest, go to our Suggestions Page and follow the instructions listed there. To enter our writing contest, select the "Submit to Contest" button on your Edit Writings page.
How we determine the winner:
Most Uploads and Most Active contests: We save information about your activity on this site. This information will be used to compare members' activity. The member with the highest totals will be selected as the winner. Please note that we will disqualify "nuisance" comments and suggestions entered with the sole purpose of winning our contests.
Best Theme Suggestion: After submitting your theme, it will be displayed on our Theme Suggestions page. The more folioalley members that vote for your theme, the better your chance of winning. The theme with the highest vote total wins!
2009 Writing Contest: All stories and poems, submitted by November 30, 2009, with "Alley Cats and Alley Rats" as the subject are automatically qualified. After your submittal, it will be displayed on our Story Challenge page where folioalley members will have the opportunity to vote on it. The writing with the most votes wins the challenge!
Folio of the Year will be determined by tallying the popularity of all portfolios - by totaling the actual ratings (ratings of 3 or greater) and the total number of unique views. Please note that our system captures only one rating per portfolio per member (so it doesn't help to rate your portfolio multiple times). The portfolio in each major folioalley category (Arts, Entertainment, Media, Business, Home and Garden, Sports, Technology, Life, Products and Science) with the highest popularity score will be displayed on the Folio of the Year page and folioalley members in good standing will be asked to vote on their choice for folio of the year. The portfolio with the highest vote total wins.
How we notify the winner:
We will notify Winners by email, using the email address listed on your account. As required, we will issue IRS tax forms reporting the actual retail value of prizes.
